The Alwoodley Parish Council is kicking off an initiative to protect hedgehogs and bring neighbours together.
Sign up to take part in this initiative and and Parish Council will
- supply free hedgehog houses this autumn to the first 20 households that sign up*
- support street captains to sign up their neighbours with customisable invitations and leaflets
- send the Parish Ranger to help to create openings in fences and boundaries to create Hedgehog Highways in early spring.
Groups of neighbours with the most sign-ups and interest will be rewarded with a hedgehog tracking tunnel (max 5). Installing these will also enable the Parish Council to establish baseline measurements and track increase in hedgehog activity year upon year.
This project supports the Alwoodley 2030 Nature Corridors Project launched by Alwoodley 2030, which aims to improve connectivity for wildlife throughout the area. That group will be giving away trees to improve food, shelter and safe passage for hedgehogs and other wildlife.
