HM Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her Diamond Jubilee in June 2012 – 60 years on the throne. During the course of many months in the build up to this milestone the Parish Council planned to celebrate this with two significant projects.
FUN DAY – Monday 4th June
This was a day for which the Parish Council had to work very hard and navigate its way through yards of red tape.
We engaged the services of a local company to set up play equipment, invited local organi-sations to provide food and drink stalls and hoped the weather wouldn’t let us down. The day was a triumph and is fondly remembered by the many hundreds who attended.
JUBILEE GARDEN
As a more lasting means of commemorating the Diamond Jubilee the Parish Council was instrumental in bringing together a series of smaller projects which collectively became known as The Jubilee Garden. This included:-
Refurbishment of the existing playground
Installation of a lectern plaque
Installation of picnic benches
Planting the Jubilee oak tree and installing a circular seat around it
Creating the Jubilee flower bed which includes an original diamond sculpture
